So I'm switching jobs yet again. I let my boss know on Friday morning that I need to resign. She wasn't thrilled, and I don't blame her. I'm pretty awesome. That, and I've only been here for 6 months. I'm nervous, to be honest. I don't have another job lined up yet.
The plan is for me to stay until the end of October. When she finds a replacement, I'll train him/her if that's what she wants. At that point I exit, stage right.
So what am I going to do? I don't know. Hopefully I'll find a job in the tech industry designing web sites. I've got some mad skills, but not so much to show on the education end. The problem with trying to be successful in life without embracing the system everyone else lives by is that when you have to use that system, you wind up getting the short end of the stick.
A month is plenty of time to find a job. I hope.
I'm dealing with a lot of uncertainty. There are a few things for sure, though.
1. Leaving is the right choice to make. 2. God will take care of the things I need.
I am an intelligent, fairly self-aware individual. For me to admit I just don't know what to do about a situation or how to handle it is quite an admission. I don't mean it in a prideful way, but most problems I can handle on my own or with the counsel of friends. There's a situation that I've dealt with for a while that I decided to get some counseling for today.
I was hoping for a new perspective...something I hadn't thought of before. Instead, the response I got was "Well, sounds like you're doing what you're supposed to do. Good luck."
Apple and Nintendo should have great 4th quarters this year. The new Ipod line (especially the Ipod Touch) and the Wii should both sell very well. If I had money to purchase stocks with, I would do it. It's fun to speculate, though.
This is one of those posts where I just write and hope something interesting falls out. My grand total of posts is rather impressive...more than 500. There's more than enough for a calendar. Perhaps someday it will even be "selected phrases from Ben Smith," coming soon to a calendar near you.
Oh, it's fun living your life as though you'll someday be famous.
I really like to look at the lives of famous, successful people to see what traits they have in common. If I ever find one or two, I can package it into a get-rich-slowly-but-it-really-pays-off-in-the-end scheme. Ponzi, look out.
There are some things the sort of people I'm talking about have in common. Now, just to be clear, I'm not talking about Billy Bob that won the lottery because he played his wife's birthday (and the powerball number was the years they had been married). I'm talking about people that are successful in their chosen business. Steve Jobs. Mark Cuban. Bill Gates. Oprah Winfrey. Martha Stewart. Matt Parker and Trey Stone. Robert Rodriguez. The Wachowski Brothers. Keanu Reeves (Like, whoah). Sandra Bullock.
How do people become successful? There's no simple answer. Everyone gets there in different ways. Some people pull themselves up by their bootstraps. Others are discovered, but never become as wealthy as the people discovering them...though definitely more famous.
What do they have in common? A willingness to work hard. A passion for what they do. Also...and this is the tricky part...they're in the right place at the right time, working hard and doing what they love. Coincidence? History shall be the judge, I suppose.
