MCP for J add-on logoMCP for Membership Pro is a Pro add-on for MCP for J that puts your Membership Pro site in front of your AI client. Forty-five tools cover plans, subscriptions, subscribers, coupons, taxes and five reports, so you can ask who is about to lapse, what your renewal rate looks like by plan, or how much you took last quarter, and get an answer instead of a spreadsheet exercise. It includes a plan-clone action Membership Pro itself does not have. Every write goes through Membership Pro's own models, which matters more here than in most components โ€” the thing that grants a subscriber their Joomla user groups is a plugin listening for an event, not a column, so a subscription written straight into the database looks perfect and grants nobody anything.

Why this exists

A membership site is a renewal business, and the questions that actually matter to a renewal business are awkward to answer from a subscription list. Who lapses in the next thirty days, and which of those are on a recurring plan that will quietly renew itself without you chasing anyone? What is the renewal rate on each plan? Which plan is carrying the revenue? Membership Pro already stores everything you would need for all of that, but its admin screens are built for working one subscription at a time, and its own Reports screen answers "how much did I make" and stops there. This add-on hands the whole surface to your AI client instead, including five reports that exist for nothing but those questions.

There is a second, smaller reason. Membership Pro has no duplicate action for plans, and a plan is ninety-odd columns, a dozen of which are email bodies that need to match your other plans exactly. Creating a new one by hand is tedious and easy to get subtly wrong. clone_mp_plan copies an existing plan wholesale, including the renewal pricing and upgrade rules that a normal save would have deleted, and tells you what it did not copy rather than pretending to be exhaustive.

What Claude can do

Forty-five tools, grouped roughly the way you would reach for them.

AreaToolsWhat you can do
Plans10List, read, create, update, publish, delete โ€” plus clone an existing plan with its renewal pricing and upgrade rules intact. Categories, renew rates and upgrade paths.
Subscriptions9List with filters, read one in full, create, update, change status, renew, cancel, bulk-extend, delete.
Subscribers5Members rather than transactions: who they are, their whole history, their custom-field answers, their Joomla groups, and any group seats they administer.
Commerce7Coupons with their real redemption history, per-plan tax rules, and the custom-field definitions that drive fees and group assignment.
Reports5Revenue by period and plan, who is expiring and who actually needs chasing, plan mix, churn and renewal rate, and a one-call dashboard snapshot.
Mail3Resend a confirmation, send a payment request, and read the email log.
Config and diagnostics4Read and write configuration safely, component and plugin inventory, and a health audit.
Table access2A read-only, column-validated query over the component's own tables for the question no tool anticipated.

Installing it

You will need Joomla 5 or 6, PHP 8.2 or later, MCP for J, and Membership Pro itself โ€” which is a separate commercial product you buy from JoomDonation. Without Membership Pro installed, every tool in this add-on refuses.

  1. Subscribe above, or get this and every other Pro add-on with MCP for J Pro โ€” All Access.
  2. Download the ZIP and install it through System โ†’ Install โ†’ Extensions, or paste your download URL into Install from URL.
  3. That is the whole install. The plugin enables itself, and the tools show up in your connected AI client the next time it lists them.

There is no admin screen for this plugin, by design โ€” it adds tools to MCP for J rather than a place to click. If you go hunting for a menu entry after installing, that is why there is not one.

Using it

Ask for what you want in plain language. "Who lapses in the next thirty days and which of them actually need chasing?" runs the expiring report and separates the people on live recurring plans from the ones who need an email. "What is my renewal rate by plan this year?" runs the churn report. "Clone the Silver plan as Gold at $29.95" does exactly that, satellite tables and all.

If you are new to it, run the health check first. It is read-only, it takes one call, and it will tell you things about your site you probably did not know โ€” including whether the plugin that grants user groups is actually switched on.

How access is actually granted, and why the tools care

This is the one thing worth understanding before you create a subscription with anything other than the Membership Pro admin screen.

Membership Pro has no plan-to-user-group column. Nothing in its database says "this plan grants that group". The mapping lives inside a plugin โ€” Membership Pro - Joomla Groups โ€” which listens for the event the component fires when a membership becomes active, and assigns groups in response. That means a subscription row inserted straight into the database is a perfect-looking, completely inert record: it appears in the admin list, it has the right dates and the right price, and the member it belongs to has no access to anything.

So every write in this add-on goes through Membership Pro's own models rather than touching tables directly, the plugin is loaded before each one so the event has somewhere to land, and the health check reports that plugin's state as a critical finding if it is missing or disabled. The installer warns you at install time too, rather than letting you find out later. There is also a case where the component deliberately defers that event โ€” a plan with a future start date, combined with one of Membership Pro's own system plugins โ€” and the tools tell you when that applies, because it is the usual innocent explanation for a group grant that seems not to have happened.

Saves that delete what you did not send

Membership Pro has four places where saving part of something removes the rest: its configuration save empties the whole settings table before writing, a subscription update deletes every custom-field answer before re-inserting, a plan save deletes that plan's renewal pricing and upgrade rules, and a coupon save drops its plan restrictions. None of these are bugs exactly โ€” they are what a full form POST from the admin screen expects โ€” but they are hostile to anything that wants to change one field.

The write tools here read the existing data back and re-post it, and then tell you in the response what they preserved, so you can see the protection worked rather than taking it on faith. The configuration tool goes further and does not use the component's save routine at all: it writes only the keys you named and leaves the other hundred and forty rows untouched on disk.

Version 1.0.0 has not yet been run against a live site

Worth saying plainly, since you are being asked to pay for it. Every tool here is written from a close reading of the Membership Pro 4.6.2 source, and the add-on passes its full verification harness โ€” all forty-five tools load, construct and describe themselves correctly. But no tool has yet executed against real subscriber data.

The read and reporting tools are safe to explore with, and are the best place to start. Before pointing the nineteen write tools at a site that takes money, take a backup. If you run into something, I would genuinely like to hear about it โ€” that feedback is what turns 1.0.0 into 1.0.1.
